Over half of the world’s population considered rice as the staple food. It’s a fundamental food in many cultural cuisines. The nutrition value of rice varies on nutrient quality of the soil where rice is grown in, whether and how the rice is polished or processed, how it is prepared, and the way it was enriched before consumption.
Benefits from consuming rice include providing fast and instant energy, regulate and improve bowel movements, stabilize blood sugar levels, and slow down the aging process. The human body can also obtain vitamin B1 from it.
However, though it has its benefits, too much consumption of rice, especially white rice, may be dangerous to your health. Yes, it’s really serious. Unhealthy eating in large bowls of rice causes obesity, increasing your chances of developing a type 2 diabetes and clogs up your blood vessels.

1. Type 2 Diabetes
Starchy white rice can overload your body with blood sugar and heighten the risk of diabetes. On a regular basis - each plate of white rice eaten in a day - raises the risk of diabetes by 11 percent in the overall population.
Carbs from white rice are converted into sugar which is then absorbed into the blood quickly. The pancreas works harder whenever there is a sugar spike. But when this happens often, the pancreas becomes less efficient in producing insulin making the body absorb the sugars. Damaged kidneys are caused by the sugars left in the blood and this leads to diabetes.
Eating too many carbohydrates is extremely bad for your body and health. It makes you gain weight and decreases our metabolism levels. Continuous gaining of weight may cause you a lot of problems including depression, difficulty in breathing and heart disease.
3. Clogs Up Your Blood Vessels
Because of a lot of carbohydrates contained in rice, it can generate more and more fats in the blood vessels making them smaller and smaller and in the end, clog them up. Clogged vessels greatly increase the likelihood of heart attack, stroke, and even death. Therefore, it is important that you do not overeat rice.
4. Harder to Digest
Being a chewier substance, rice is harder to digest by the body because it is harder to breakdown. As a result of consuming a lot of it, your metabolism decreases and digestion slows down which can lead to many problems involving the heart.
So, do you still want to have that extra rice whenever you have a delicious meal? That’s really a big no, no for you. You don’t want to have those diseases right? But it doesn’t mean that you should not be eating rice. It is still a very healthy food. Only that if you eat too much, it becomes unhealthy.
